That time of year is just around the corner. We drag out the Christmas tree, Hannukah candles, or what have you, and celebrate looking forward to the new year, being together with loved ones, or maybe just hoping we get something under the tree. I know this year is rough in terms of the holidays, at least for most Americans like myself, so maybe this will make shopping for that last minute gift for the nerd or weeb in your life a little easier.

Have you ever wanted a figure, to show your love of a character, but couldn't decide between X, x, or X~ ? I'll go over all the things to think about when deciding on that timeless question, "Which figure should I get?" and hopefully help you make a decision!
Chances are if you're here you already have a collection of some kind, particularly one related to anime or video games. Maybe you collect porcelain knick-knacks or stamps, because nostalgia is cool? But what if you have some spare cash in your budget and would like to start collecting? There are a lot of reasons to start: as an investment, to show you're a fan of something, to share in the joy with other collectors, ect. But where do you begin?
Today's topic stems from an issue with older plush and beanies, particularly from the 90's. The popular trend was to add vinyl for a special effect. You may have come across a plush with this issue or found a plush you've been wanting but it was damaged. I'm going to go over some ways to hunt down these plush, preserving them, and repairing them!
Hello everyone! I am back from a short vacation and this topic recently came up in our Discord, so I thought I would share some tips from my personal experience when moving. How do you store specific collectibles? What kind of padding to wrap them in? Boxes or not?
I'll answer these questions and more for you! These tips also work great if you're looking to temporarily store any items from your collection! Sometimes in collecting we run into bootlegs -- unofficial merchandise, sometimes mass produced --and it can be a disappointment or a morbid curiousity. You may also run into reproductions: fakes made to look identical to the original.
These can come in a variety of collections: plush, figures, and video games. Today, I'm going to cover video game bootlegs / repros. Are they good? Bad? How has it effected the industry? Where can you get them? Read on to find out! Sometimes the collecting bug has got us good. You look around and wonder: did I collect too much? Maybe I was a little hasty in purchasing that scale figure... Or maybe you don't love a specific part of your collection anymore? Heck, maybe you just need to pay the bills with your investment.
How in the world do you decide what to let go? I've got a few tips that should help cull the herd! Collecting during the COVID-19 pandemic has been anything but easy for collectors. I'm here to offer some solace and take a look at the problems we're all facing during our collecting journey.
The most impactful of all, especially for US citizens, has been Japan's closure of most mail service. At the time of writing, only DHL remains open. However, this also effects other countries as many stores and shops are experiencing unprecedented delays. What's causing them? How can we handle this ongoing situation? I'll try and answer some of these questions by providing insight for you all! Part one will cover the intermediaries available and what they are used for, how the work, and the fees involved. Importing has been the bane of collectors' existence for a long time, especially if you live in a place like Canada or the UK where custom fees only add to the expense. However, there are many upsides to using an intermediary over something like Ebay or second-hand person in the states. These two options are pricier because you must take into account the cost of importing for them and fees for the selling platform. This way, it's like going straight to the goose for the golden egg and avoiding getting the warning honk. First up, you should determine where you want to buy from. I will focus specifically on Japan here, but I have seen people find intermediaries for Germany and China also. In fact, since Taobao was requested by popular demand, I am going to include it here for you all. Japan and importing from there has become quite the business as resellers, collectors, and the weeaboos of the 90's are growing up and learning more. Intermediaries have gotten more knowledgeable, too, growing alongside their audience. Thanks to this, there are more than the two or three options we had back in 2002. FromJapan
FromJapan is one of, if not the most popular on the list. They were established in 2004 and have a generally positive reception. |
